But in an effort to keep my mind off the chaos on the road, I cut my thoughts lose! So here is how my thoughts wandered:

1. Man the traffic in Hyderabad sucks
2. Let me rephrase it, traffic in India sucks
3. No driver/rider in India has got road sense
4. All drivers/riders in India are bad drivers/riders
5. All drivers/riders in the US of have excellent road sense
6. All drivers/riders in US are excellent drivers/riders
7. Hmm... wait a minute. If the drivers/riders in India are so bad, it doesnt kinda equate to the number of accidents. You would imagine that such chaos should produce atleast 10 accidents a minute but I see accidents only once in a while
8. Wow. So may be the scene is not so bad
9. May be the drivers/riders in India are excellent drivers/riders and that is why we have very few accidents (comparatively speaking that is!)
10. Wonder how the Americans would manage the traffic in India ... *Chuckle*
11. Damn I should patent this paradox!!!!

Citizen of the World

I went to this management school called Thunderbird in Phoenix. Its the best school for International Management; consistently ranked Number 1 in International Management. If there is one thing about the school that I would always remember, its the quote from Socrates on the compound wall of the school. It says "I am not an Athenian ... or a Greek... I am a citizen of the world!" I found this super cool. And pretty soon, I heard every non-tbird say "wow" everytime I mention this. Except for this friend of mine :))

It all started over a very usual - "What did you have for lunch conversation"

Friend : why do u need to take roti when there is rice?
Viggy : i am a roti person re.
Viggy : cant have a lot of rice
Viggy : except when it is biryani
Friend : u got nothing tamilian in u!
Viggy : lol
Viggy : didnt i tell u?
Viggy : am the citizen of the world
Friend : which world?
Viggy : which world???
Viggy : apna world re.. planet earth
Viggy : DIDNT i tell u abt tbird and what the school believes?
Friend : no u dint
Viggy : hmm dont know how i missed this one. i tell it to almost everyone i know
Viggy : tbird's motto was a quote from Socrates
Viggy : it said "I am not an Athenian or a Greek... I am a citizen of the world"
Viggy : this quote can be found sculpted on the compound wall of the school...
Viggy : tbird is a very international school, and you would find ppl from almost all countries in the world with a pretty good representation from all countries
Viggy : so it went along well with all the tbirds
Viggy : and most of the tbirds call themselves citizens of the world
Friend : bullshit..all u ppl ended up being is confused ...
Friend : with a fake yankee accent and may be got lucky for the first time... if you were lucky enough that is!
Viggy : WTF? #$%@#$%@$#

Post Homecoming thoughts ...

My undergrad was in Regional Engineering College, Trichy (REC Trichy) now re-christened National Institute of Technology, Trichy (NIT, Trichy). Unarguably the best days of my life. When I talk about REC, I always think about it as the place where:

I got out of the comfort of my home in Madras for the first time and started to learn and live the independant way

I met a lot of amazing people who have now become the closest of buddies and brothers in arms

I transformed from an innocent-not-at-all-worldwise teenager to a spoilt-worldwise-youth ;)

Now all of the above happened not because I joined REC per se but because of the hostel life. It happened because I met people from all the states in India. It happened because I met people from all the stratas of society and more importantly I learnt to understand, respect and live with them. It happened because I shared my life with theirs 24/7/365/4! Now all that was between 1995 to 1999. An altogether different millenium I guess.

During the last week of December '06, a batchmate and a very good friend of mine from good old REC days - Senti, decided to drive down to Trichy for old times sake. You know to get the feeling of Nostalgia and basically have a good time. But what we saw there disturbed us quite a bit. Thanks to the PC and telecom revolution that is happening, we found that the student interaction in hostel has hit an all time low. Here is what we found:

Almost every room in the hostel has got a PC or a laptop with an internet connection. So every student is stuck in his own room

Every student has a cel-fone. We hardly found students walking in groups to the snacky place or tea-shops. Each one was with his cel-fone stuck to his ear. What was even worse was that there were quite a few blokes with cel-fones in the mess too!

TV Rooms are dead, because I guess everyone downloads movies or get their own CDs and watch it in their room

Still unclear on what to make out of these observations. But here is a list of reactions:

Damn! And we thought we wouldnt face the issue of generation gap - Viggy

They are missing out on the brotherhood we shared - Viggy

Crap! This is not the REC I studied in - Senti

What the hell, I am not going to worry - I got the best of both the worlds. Had a great life in REC and I am also on Orkut - Kille

May be these guys would have a much better network than us. They are already very well connected through all these websites and IMs - Kille

Your thoughts?

Signs of being single for too long?

I am by no means a great singer. But I live alone in Hyderabad in a pretty big apartment. What that means is I can sing as loud as I can as and when I want to. But the problem with me is, I know when I sound bad while singing. So I try to make some amends here and there.
Very recently, I read an article somewhere that a singer should relate to the song he is delivering. I took this cue pretty seriosly.

Fell in love with this song "Tere Bina" from this film - Guru. As usual tried to sing this song, but not once did I come close to how Rahman was delivering it. So I tried to incorporate the tip I read about singing - "relating to the song"

This song is all about how difficult it is to live without a girlfriend/spouse, you know the usual every-other-filmi-song types. So here I go, trying to come up with one girl that would help me sing this song better. To my surprise quite a few names popped up. But the second it popped up there was this voice in my head that dismissed every one of them. Some of them listed below:

1. 'Dude! The girl is married!! Leave her alone.'
2. 'Ewwwww!! Her??? Naaaaa...'
3. 'Her?! Dont you remember what she did to you?'
4. 'Dude you need to get a life'

Signs of maintaining the single status for too long? :))

The Beauty of Nature - Part 2

Howdy everyone! After the last post of mine, I got a few letters that were nothing short of a threatening! Some where better than what Al Qaeda comes up with every now and then! But there were a few that did appreciate the previous post. A big thanks to them all! So here me goes with "Part 2"! Hope you like it! READ ON!! And do post your comments.

Let's take a place, say the place I live in... Banjara Hills! Let's assume that Banjara Hills has everything a man can ask for. Its got all kinds of goods available. By available I mean its manufactured/made/grown all in Banjara Hills. In other words, Banjara Hills is self-sufficient. In such a scenario, is there any chance of doing business with Banjara Hills?! Zilch right?! But as you, me and everyone else knows, that is just not possible! The point I am trying to make is simple. For Life and Business to thrive ... inequalities or differences between people or region must exist! According to my previous argument, for life to be devoid of violence, all humans must be an exact clone of the other! Awrite, so the world leaders decide that I am the most peaceful man on earth and decide to make zillion clones of me! So what do you get? A world full of people that dont know how to:

1. How to manage a simple household let alone a country!
2. How to treat people when they are sick
3. How to shop
4. How to play cricket
5. How to make money in the stock market :(
6. How to appreciate old Hindi film music

I bet there are a zillion more to that list, but lemme stop with 6 ;) Newayz... world would become one boring place for sure :)) Puns apart, you need all kinds of people to make life move. Think the world is full of inequalities, and all these inequalities somehow add up to a state of equilibrium ... which makes our life move ...Dont know if am making sense here ... But thatz exactly the Beauty of Nature! A Beauty made by zillions and zillions of inequalities...

Peace Mates,

V

The Beauty of Nature - Part 1

About a year back, nothing was going right for me. Both my professional life and my personal life were taking a deep dive. I was trying to reason out as to why my life is taking such a big nose-dive. As every one that went through such a phase would know, its a futile excercise. Most of the time, think the best solution would be to attribute it to Murphy's Law - "When things have to go wrong, it will go wrong".

Anywayz, at that point of time, I was not as wise as I am right now (Atleast I think so, though most of the people that know me would strongly disagree!), I blamed Nature.

I thought world would be a fairer place, if every human being is an exact clone of the other. Every place/city/country is the exact replica of every other place/city/country. At this point, I know what would hit you - "How boring! How could you live a life, in which anything and everything is an exact replica of every other anything and every other everything!!". Letz rewind about a zillion years back and assume that you are God and you erase the colour blue from earth. By doing so, the zillions of people that would grace the earth to live would never know what a colour blue is!! Now letz extend this analogy to a place where anything and everything looks like every other anything and every other everything!! If you have got used to living such a life, why would you even care if everything looks the same?!

Now let's talk about what would happen, if all men were exact clones:

1. There would be 1 single race
2. There would be 1 single country
3. Since everyone knows how each person is going to react to a situation, it is easy to manage the people
4. There would be 1 single religion

I can go on and on listing stuff like that, but the bottom line is, world would be a fairer place! Infact such a world would be much more than more fairer! It would be a place where there would be no bloodshed! No war!! No Hatred!! (Not to forget heartbreaks in the matters of the heart;) )

I made the above conclusions and I convinced myself that Nature is crazy! It could have made life of people much more easier if it had simply replicated!

Now hold on! Dont brand me as an enemy of nature, roll up your sleeves and get ready to attack me! Later I did realise that for everything to what Nature is, there is a purpose... That you would read, in the second part... Till then, take care!

Cheers,

V

Ever heard of a Reverse Theory of Relativity?!

I bet you have'nt, coz itz yours truly that came up with this theory :D But if you still say you have heard about this theory before, then there are 3 possibilities:

1. You are simplee lying
2. You are one of the very few people that think I am a waldo coz I told you all about this theory
3. You are among the very few people that were informed about this Reverse Theory of Relativity by the people that branded me a waldo :))

Well... Cant blame them, coz my imagination runs riot and this is just one among them.

You people heard abt Einstein and his "Theory of Relativity" right? Dude burst a bomb that basically converted Mass into Energy! Now can you give me an example of Energy gettin converted to Mass?!Easy muh friends... LIFE! A perfect example... LIFE is nothin but an energy of some kind... And this life energy gets converted into Mass... in this context our bodies.. So we live as long as this convertion takes place. One fine day, we use up all this energy and we droop dead one day!

Howzzat for my second blog?!

Peace Mates,

Cheers,

V

What would happen...

Have any of you people out there, thought about a scenario like this?! What happens when the value of the Rupee shoots up over time and one fine day 1 Rupee = 1 US Dollar?!

India is a developing country right?! I bet there would be no debate on that... We are also 1 billion plus people in this country. Our incomes are on the rise... So once your incomes are on the rise, purchasing power of the people are also on the rise. So the next logical conclusion would be, we need more stuff to be manufactured/imported and more services to the people in India who are experiencing an increase in purchasing power...

My point is... US and most of the western world, is looking for cheaper places to service its people and also to get its stuff manufactured... and the population of the US and the developed world put together is probably like 70% of the population of India?! :-? So when more and more people become rich in India and we need more and more people to service and manufacture stuff for these rich people, it kinda has a snowballing effect... Dont you think so? We got 1 billion people for christ sake!! Enough to do more business than all the developed countries put together... (But leave China out ;) )Dont you think so?! So we kinda would become a country that is self-sustaining... As in you dont need business from outside... You have enough business inside your country.... Precisely like what a US is today!

So when that happens... the value of Indian Rupee is sure to shoot up! So would we end up buying a BMW in India for Rs.35,499.99 only!? ;)

Think about it...

Cheers,

V
